Black Myth Wukong Ch 5-6 Missable Bosses & True Ending

The Final Stretch — Where the True Ending Lives or Dies

Black Myth: Wukong's Chapters 5 and 6 feel simpler than the sprawling mid-game. Chapter 5 is almost entirely linear, and Chapter 6 gives you the Somersault Cloud to fly freely across Mount Huaguo. But don't let that simplicity fool you.

Chapter 5 hides the last true ending boss — the Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast — behind a multi-step quest in a secret area. Chapter 6 holds the Great Sage armor set, a hidden boss requiring items from all four previous chapters, and the final gate to the true ending at the Great Pagoda. Miss any of these, and your 40+ hour playthrough ends with the normal ending instead.

This guide covers every boss and key collectible in both chapters, organized by progression order and completely spoiler-free.

Before Entering Chapter 5 — Quick Pre-Check

Horse Guai quest: Make sure you've spoken to the Horse NPC in Chapters 1-4. The Chapter 5 encounter is near the Valley Entrance, and it becomes permanently unavailable after passing Furnace Valley.

Skandha items: Confirm you have Form (Ch1), Feeling (Ch2), Thought (Ch3), and Choice (Ch4). You need all four to unlock a hidden boss in Chapter 6. If you're missing any, go back now.

Chapter 5: Flaming Mountains

The path is straightforward: Woods of Ember → Furnace Valley → Field of Fire → Bishui Cave (secret) → Final Boss.

The Bull Quest Unlocks Everything

At the Ashen Pass I Shrine, you'll fight the Pale-Axe Stalwart (a bull NPC). After the fight, talk to him. He asks you to destroy the Five Element Carts — this quest is the only way to reach the secret Bishui Cave area.

Three carts (Brown-Iron, Gray-Bronze, Rusty-Gold) block the main path, so you'll fight them naturally. After destroying all three, return to the bull at the Emerald Hall Shrine. Skipping this return trip means Bishui Cave stays locked.

There are actually five carts total. The fourth is found broken, and the fifth requires four Flame Ores (dropped by Flamlings) to summon at a specific location in the Field of Fire.

Easy-to-Miss Bosses

Flint Chief sits on a lava lake in Furnace Valley. Equip the Fireproof Mantle before approaching — without it, you'll take constant burn damage. Drop from the stone arch to the left and navigate across the lava.

The Chapter 5 frog boss (one per chapter for an achievement) is near the Bishui Cave ice gate entrance — go left immediately after entering, into a corner. Not inside Bishui Cave itself, but at the gate entrance. Very easy to walk right past.

Nine-Capped Lingzhi Guai appears in the Field of Fire. Watch for red trails on the ground that explode after a delay.

Bishui Cave — The Last True Ending Puzzle Piece

Just before the final boss (Red Boy), an event lets you extinguish the Samadhi Fire with the Plantain Fan. This also clears the fire blocking the path to Bishui Cave.

Inside Bishui Cave, you'll face the twin bosses Top Takes Bottom & Bottom Takes Top, and then the Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast — the Chapter 5 true ending boss and the last of the five hidden bosses required across the game. Beating this boss completes the prerequisite chain for the Great Pagoda.

You also receive four Bull King Horn materials for the Bull King armor set.

Chapter 5 Final Boss

Red Boy leads into the Yaksha King transformation. If you die to the Yaksha King phase, you restart from that phase, not the beginning.

Chapter 6: Mount Huaguo

Chapter 6 opens with the Supreme Inspector — the talisman quest boss from Chapter 4, returning for a full fight. Defeating him gives you the Somersault Cloud, enabling flight across the entire map.

Hidden Great Sage Set (Free Loot)

Immediately after getting Somersault Cloud, fly backward to the Chapter 6 starting area. Behind a large tree, there's a chest containing the basic-tier Great Sage armor set (helmet, chest, arms, legs). Free, no boss fight required.

Great Sage Armor Bosses — Kill Order Matters

The real Great Sage set comes from four bosses, and there's a dependency:

Feng-Tail General (helmet), Gold Armored Rhino (chest armor), and Cloudtreading Deer (leg armor) must all be killed before the Emerald-Armed Mantis event triggers. Look for lightning strikes to find the Rhino and Deer.

The Emerald-Armed Mantis fight takes place inside Zhu Bajie's stomach — a unique arena where meditation spot locations are invisible. Beating it gives you the arm armor and the Compliant Golden-Hooped Rod (weapon), completing the set.

Giant Shigandang — The Skandha Payoff

If you collected all four Skandha items from Chapters 1-4, fly past the Son of Stones and along the right wall to find a massive arena. The Giant Shigandang awaits. The fight is slow but easy — hit his hands when they're exposed. Defeating him gives you the fifth Skandha (Consciousness), which you can bring to the alchemist for the Five Skandha Pill.

The Great Pagoda — True Ending Gate

With all five hidden bosses defeated (Elder Jinchi, Fuban, Green-Capped Martialist, Duskveil, Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast), travel to the Snow-Veiled Trail Shrine in the Pagoda Realm (Chapter 3). Follow the path to the Great Pagoda.

The hidden boss here is the ultimate challenge. The Plantain Fan and Great Sage armor set are highly recommended. Victory rewards you with one of the strongest weapons in the game.

After this fight, return to the Chapter 6 final boss. Defeating them now triggers the true ending instead of the normal one.

Two Endings, One Playthrough

You can see the normal ending first (just beat the final boss without the Pagoda fight), then return to the pre-boss checkpoint, complete the Pagoda fight, and beat the final boss again for the true ending. No second playthrough needed.

Complete Boss Lists

True Ending Requirements — Complete

Five hidden bosses: Ch1 Elder Jinchi, Ch2 Fuban, Ch3 Green-Capped Martialist, Ch4 Duskveil, Ch5 Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast. All five defeated → Great Pagoda boss unlocked → defeat final boss again → true ending.

The dragon hidden bosses (Chapters 1-4) are not required for the true ending, but are needed for 100% completion.

The Bottom Line

Chapter 5: talk to the bull after every cart kill, hit the frog boss at the ice gate before entering Bishui Cave, and clear Bishui Cave before the final boss. Chapter 6: kill three Great Sage bosses before the mantis, bring all four Skandhas for the Giant Shigandang, and equip the Great Sage set before attempting the Pagoda boss. Follow these rules and you'll see both endings without a second playthrough.
