Black Myth Wukong Chapter 4 Guide: Every Hidden Boss & Missable
Why Chapter 4 Needs a Guide
Black Myth: Wukong's Chapter 4 — "Rosy Cheeks, Gray Hair" — is the game's most labyrinthine chapter. The Webbed Hollow is a sprawling vertical cave system with 11 shrines, 2 hidden areas, and 17 bosses tucked into every crevice. Miss one wrong turn and you can permanently lock yourself out of key items, transformations, and boss fights that won't come back until NG+.
This guide walks you through every area in the optimal order — the order that's the most fun and ensures you don't miss a thing.
The Permanently Missable Items (Read This First)
Before anything else, burn these into your memory. Get the order wrong and there's no going back.
Venomous Armguard — During the first Venom Daoist fight (Pool of Shattered Jade), you must break all the extra arms on his back before killing him. Equip your weakest weapon so you don't accidentally kill the boss before the arms are destroyed.
Stained Jade Gourd — In the secret area (Purple Cloud Mountain), defeat the Scorpionlord before the Duskveil. If you kill the Duskveil first, the Scorpionlord permanently despawns and you lose this gourd, which massively increases drinking speed.
Violet Hail Transformation — Same rule: defeat Daoist Mi before the Duskveil, or it's gone forever.
Celestial Nonary Pill — Remove all 4 Purple Talismans before fighting the final boss. Miss one, and you lose a permanent max stamina increase.
Horse Guai Dialogue — After defeating the Centipede Guai, free the Horse Guai from a cocoon and exhaust all his dialogue. This continues a multi-chapter quest that rewards the Dark Thunder transformation in Chapter 5.
Area 1: Village of Lanxi
The chapter opens with you and Zhu Bajie being carried in a box. Once you're out, go backwards first — there's a chest with a Longevity Decoction, Antimiasma Powder, and further back a larger chest with the Cuo Jin-Yin Belt Hook (a poison resistance curio you'll want equipped for most of this chapter).
Explore the village thoroughly — there are chests behind the main entrance path, inside houses, and across the bridge. At the Earth Temple, you can unlock crafting for the Mace weapon and the Golden Body armor set.
The first boss, The Second Sister, appears after a cutscene at the east gate. She's a giant spider but goes down relatively fast. After beating her, grab the Celestial Pill and Awakened Wine Worm nearby, then follow Zhu Bajie down the hole.
Area 2: The Webbed Hollow
This is where it gets complicated. The Webbed Hollow is a massive vertical cave with upper, middle, and lower sections. Torches serve as your breadcrumbs — when lost, follow the torches.
Upper Hollow → Pool of Shattered Jade (Hidden)
After unlocking the Upper Hollow shrine, explore upward for treasure, then work your way down via platforms and torch markers until you reach The Verdure Bridge shrine.
But first: visit the Pool of Shattered Jade. This hidden shrine is off the main path but mandatory for unlocking the secret area later. From the Upper Hollow shrine, go up the torch-lit stairs, drop off at the wooden path, follow the dark tunnel with cocoons on the ceiling, take the left fork (the one with egg sacs), pass the meditation spot on the water, and you'll find the shrine.
The Venom Daoist's first fight is in the cave to the right of this shrine. Remember: break all the arms with a weak weapon for the Venomous Armguard.
The Verdure Bridge → Middle Hollow
After the Elder Amourworm boss fight (keep the Proto Amourworm reward — you can give it to Chen Loong in the Zodiac Village later), follow the torches. You'll trigger a cutscene with a mysterious woman and find Purple Talisman #1.
In the Middle Hollow, defeat the Centipede Guai, then go left into the lit cave to find the Horse Guai trapped in a cocoon. Hit the cocoon to free him and exhaust all dialogue. Further ahead, break sacs to open the path and find Purple Talisman #2 on the slope.
The Critical Fork at Cliff of Oblivion
After beating Buddha's Right Hand (whose corpse becomes a bridge), you'll reach a fork in the road:
- Right: Main path to the Lower Hollow via a Zhu Bajie cutscene. There's a hidden meditation spot in the spider web hallway — check the crack in the right wall.
- Left: Hidden path to the Relief of the Fallen Loong shrine.
Go left first. This hidden area contains the Yellow Loong boss (only appears if you've beaten all three Loong brothers in Chapters 1–3) and Purple Talisman #3 (middle path in the three-way cave split). You can then descend to rejoin the Lower Hollow shrine.
Lower Hollow → The Gathering Cave
From here it's more linear: Baw-Li-Guhh-Baw → two back-to-back Zhu Bajie fights → The Purifying Spring (grab the Skandha of Choice from the Buddha head, and be careful not to aggro the Dragonfly Guai during the Scorpion Prince fight) → Violet Spider boss fight. When golden spiders swarm after the Violet Spider dies, just run.
Area 3: Temple of Yellow Flowers
The green mountain paths are a welcome relief from the caves. Push through Mountain Trail → Forest of Ferocity (Commander Beetle boss, Tablet of the Three Supremes curio) → Temple Entrance (Snake Sheriff spirit and Awakened Wine Worm inside the temple, right side) → Court of Illumination.
Court of Illumination: Don't Rush the Final Boss
The Court of Illumination is your hub. Do not go directly to the final boss. Here's the optimal sequence:
- Go south through the gate, climb to the top for the Sunset of the Nine Skies drink
- Pick the Monkey-Head Fungus on your way back to fight the Fungiwoman
- On the return path, find the opening for Venom Daoist fight #2 (only appears if you beat him at Pool of Shattered Jade)
- Go north up the stairs to remove Purple Talisman #4 → triggers the Supreme Inspector fight (you don't need to fully defeat him — just whittle about 15% HP and he flees) → grab the Celestial Nonary Pill
- (Recommended) Enter Purple Cloud Mountain through the mural portal at the Venom Daoist #2 arena → clear the entire secret area → then return for the final boss
Secret Area: Purple Cloud Mountain
After beating the Venom Daoist twice, a mural appears on the wall. Interact with it to warp to this gorgeous hidden area full of peach blossoms — and three dangerous bosses.
Boss Order Is Non-Negotiable
Scorpionlord → Daoist Mi → Duskveil. Always.
Kill the Duskveil first and the other two permanently vanish. No exceptions, no recovery until NG+.
Scorpionlord: From the Bounds of Deity's Abode shrine, go up and smash his wine jars to start the fight. Poison-heavy — bring resistance gear. The reward is the Stained Jade Gourd, which dramatically speeds up healing via drinking.
Daoist Mi: Inside Petalfall Hamlet. You need the Violet Hail item from a nearby enemy to start the fight. On the way, pick up the Celestial Registry Tablet curio under a pagoda and the Gold Sun Crow curio above the gate. Defeating Daoist Mi awards the Violet Hail transformation.
Duskveil: At the top of Cloudnest Peak. Thrust Stance works well here. Recommended loadout: Immobilize + Cloud Step + A Pluck of Many spells, Red Tides transformation (wolf form for fast approach + burn), Wandering Wight spirit. Your reward: the Weaver's Needle vessel.
The Final Boss: Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master
With the Weaver's Needle in hand, return to the Court of Illumination shrine and head down the steps. A cutscene plays and you're thrown into the chapter's climactic fight. The Violet Spider's daughters assist you.
At roughly one-third health, the boss shifts to a golden form for Phase 2. Activate the Weaver's Needle to strip his golden form, stun him, and fight him normally. Without it, Phase 2 is brutally difficult.
Defeat him and Chapter 4 wraps up with the usual story cinematic.
