Black Myth Wukong Ch 3-4 Missable Bosses Checklist

Miss One Boss, Lose Your True Ending

Black Myth: Wukong doesn't have a map. That's part of its charm — and also why it's absurdly easy to walk right past a hidden boss and never know it existed. Chapters 3 and 4 are the worst offenders. The maps are sprawling, side paths are subtle, and several bosses are permanently missable once you cross certain points of no return.

This guide covers every boss, hidden quest, and key collectible in Chapters 3 and 4 — organized by progression order, spoiler-free. Keep it open on your phone while you play, check things off as you go, and you won't have any regrets at the end of your run.

The Three Rules That Save Your Playthrough

Before diving into the checklists, memorize these three things:

Rule 1: Each chapter has a hidden boss required for the true ending. Chapter 3's is the Green-Capped Martialist (requires completing the Watermelon Patch quest). Chapter 4's is Duskveil (requires unlocking the secret Purple Cloud Mountain area). Miss either one, and you're locked out of the true ending for that entire playthrough.

Rule 2: In Chapter 4's Purple Cloud Mountain, kill order matters. You must defeat the Scorpionlord and Daoist Mi before fighting Duskveil. If you fight Duskveil first, the other two disappear permanently from your save.

Rule 3: Chapter 4's talisman quest must be done before the final boss. Collect all four purple talismans and trigger the Supreme Inspector fight before entering the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master's arena. Once you start that fight, the talisman quest is locked out.

Chapter 3: The New West — Full Checklist

The progression path goes: Snowhill Path → Pagoda Realm → Bitter Lake → Valley of Ecstasy → New Thunderclap Temple.

Snowhill Path

If you've already beaten Kang-Jin Loong, this section is done. Just make sure you didn't miss the meditation spot — you can always come back for it later.

Pagoda Realm — Don't Skip the Back Rooms

The Pagoda Realm is a prison-like dungeon structure. This is where the Third Prince's quest begins — he'll ask you to collect four Captain spirits throughout Chapter 3.

The bosses most people miss here are Captain Wise-Voice and Captain Lotus-Vision. They're tucked away in back areas off the main path. When you reach the Upper Pagoda Shrine, make sure to explore behind and above it, not just the path forward.

You can also pick up the Spark spell and the Ember transformation from cells in this area.

Bitter Lake — Two Bosses You Can't Afford to Skip

Cyan Loong is the Chapter 3 dragon hidden boss. From the Turtle Island Shrine, go backward — not forward. He's sitting near the cliff edge. You need the Loong Scale in your inventory. If you miss him here, the Chapter 4 dragon boss (the toughest in the game) won't spawn at all.

Apramana Bat is along the right shoreline from Turtle Island. If you beat the Chapter 3 final boss before killing this bat, a specific story event gets skipped.

After defeating Chen Loong (left from Turtle Island), follow his quest chain to unlock the hidden Zodiac Village. Inside, challenge the blacksmith — winning gives you an extra accessory slot, which is a permanent power boost you don't want to miss.

The Watermelon Patch quest also starts here. At the North Shore of Bitter Lake Shrine, head right toward a small house to find an NPC being harassed by enemies. You'll meet him again in the Valley of Ecstasy.

Valley of Ecstasy — Where Most People Miss the Most

This is the largest and most confusing area in Chapter 3. Side paths are easy to overlook, and missing one can mean missing multiple bosses and quests.

Old Ginseng Guai is behind the Towers of Karma Shrine, which itself requires taking a left side path from the Forest of Bliss area. Many players never find this entire sub-zone. Behind the ginseng boss's tower, you'll also find a top-tier wine.

The Watermelon Patch quest continues here. Find the "Give me fire" NPC near the Towers of Karma Shrine, use the Lounge Rest spell on him, and he'll direct you to the Watermelon Patch. The boss waiting there — the Green-Capped Martialist — is Chapter 3's true ending requirement. Beating him also gives you the Spell Binder skill.

The important collectible Perception (one of five key items for a late-game recipe) is near the first Non-White fight location. Don't rush past the arena after the fight — search the surroundings.

The Third Captain's spirit is on a corpse on the hilltop to the right of the Longevity Road gate. No fight required — just walk up and grab it.

Before the New Thunderclap Temple

Captain Kalpa-Wave guards the path just before the temple entrance. Beating him gives you the Second Captain's spirit. Once you have all four, return to the Pagoda Realm and deliver them to the Third Prince for a weapon crafting material.

New Thunderclap Temple

This is a linear gauntlet: Non-Able (with a transformation reward), the remaining disciples (Non-Pure, Non-Void, Non-Empty), and the Chapter 3 final boss Yellowbrow in a multi-phase fight.

Chapter 4: The Webbed Hollow — Order Matters

The path goes: Village of Lanxi → Webbed Hollow → Temple of Yellow Flowers → Purple Cloud Mountain (secret) → Final Boss.

Village of Lanxi

The Second Sister is a story encounter. After beating her, check the courtyard for a Lantern Warden (spirit collectible).

Webbed Hollow — Find the Hidden Shrine

Zhu Bajie (two encounters) and Violet Spider are unmissable story bosses.

Elder Amourworm is the easy-to-miss boss here. From the Verdure Bridge Shrine, go through the mossy area, turn left, enter the gate with two lamps, and push through the webs at the back. It's tucked away in a dead-end cliff area.

Venom Daoist (first encounter) is near the Pool of Shattered Jade Shrine. You need to beat him here before you can face him again in the Temple of Yellow Flowers, which is what unlocks the secret area.

The first Venom Daoist fight is critical because beating him twice (here and in the Temple) unlocks Purple Cloud Mountain.

Purple talismans 1-3 are scattered throughout the Webbed Hollow. Collect them as you progress — don't wait.

Temple of Yellow Flowers

Beat the Venom Daoist here a second time, then interact with the painting to open Purple Cloud Mountain.

Little Yellow Dragon is near the Stone Wall Shrine. He only spawns if you've killed all three previous dragon hidden bosses (Chapters 1-3). If you're missing even one, he won't appear.

Purple Cloud Mountain — The Kill Order You Can't Ignore

This secret area has three bosses and one unbreakable rule: kill Daoist Mi and Scorpionlord before Duskveil.

Fight Daoist Mi first (left path), then Scorpionlord (right path), then Duskveil (deeper left). If you go straight to Duskveil, the other two vanish from your save permanently.

Duskveil drops the Sight-Sharpening Needle, which lets you break the final boss's domain expansion in phase 2. Getting this before the final fight makes a huge difference.

Talismans & Supreme Inspector → Final Boss

The fourth talisman is behind the left door at the entrance to the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master's arena. Collecting all four triggers the Supreme Inspector fight. Complete this before entering the final boss room.

Then, and only then, take on the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master — Chapter 4's final boss.

True Ending Boss Requirements

Five hidden bosses across the game unlock the true ending path: Chapter 1 Elder Jinchi, Chapter 2 Fuban, Chapter 3 Green-Capped Martialist, Chapter 4 Duskveil, Chapter 5 Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast. All five must be defeated. The dragon hidden bosses are not part of this requirement.

The Bottom Line

Three things to remember: do the Watermelon Patch quest in Chapter 3, respect the kill order in Purple Cloud Mountain, and finish the talisman quest before the Chapter 4 final boss. Follow these rules, keep this checklist handy, and you'll clear both chapters without missing a single boss.
