Black Myth Wukong Ch 1-2 Missable Bosses & Hidden Areas
The True Ending Starts in Chapter 1
Most players treat Black Myth: Wukong's first chapter as a tutorial. Big mistake. Chapter 1 already contains one of the five hidden bosses required for the true ending, and Chapter 2 hides an entire secret kingdom behind a multi-step quest chain. Miss either of these, and you'll need a second playthrough to see the real ending.
This guide covers every boss and key collectible in the first two chapters, organized by progression order — no story spoilers, just locations and prerequisites.
Chapter 1: Black Wind Mountain — Ring the Bells
Chapter 1 has 11 bosses total: 7 mandatory and 4 optional. The path goes Front Hills → Forest of Wolves → Bamboo Grove → Marsh of White Mist → Black Wind Cave → Bodhi Peak.
Elder Jinchi — The True Ending Boss You'll Walk Right Past
Three bells are hidden across Black Wind Mountain. Ring all three, and you're teleported to the Ancient Guanyin Temple where Elder Jinchi waits. He's a stronger version of the Wandering Wight with a nasty heal mechanic — he absorbs nearby corpses to restore health, so kill the adds fast.
Here's where the bells are. The first is at the end of Guangzhi's boss arena (take the left path from the Outside the Forest Shrine, cross the bridge). The second is behind the Marsh of White Mist Shrine — go down the stairs and right, then up another set of stairs. The third is from the same shrine, past the Whiteclad Noble arena, through an opening on the left instead of the main gate.
Defeating Elder Jinchi gives you the Fireproof Mantle — one of the most useful Vessels in the game, granting burn resistance and lava immunity. You'll need it in Chapters 5 and 6.
Don't Skip the Wandering Wight
The Wandering Wight is technically optional, but skipping it is a bad idea for two reasons. First, its Spirit skill is excellent in combat. Second, you need that Spirit skill in Chapter 2 to break a wall and obtain the Loong Scales — the item that unlocks both dragon hidden bosses.
Find it by going right from the Outside the Forest Shrine instead of left.
Guangzhi — Free Transformation
Also near the Outside the Forest Shrine, take the left fork and cross the bridge. Guangzhi is an optional boss, but defeating him gives you the Red Tides spell and a transformation. Both are worth having early.
The Frog Boss
Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang sits in the Bamboo Grove stream. Every chapter has one of these frog bosses for an achievement — don't skip them.
Horse Guai — Start This Now
Near the second meditation spot, you'll find the Horse NPC. Talk to him to start the Celestial Court quest chain that spans all five chapters. Miss him here and the entire chain breaks.
Red Loong — Come Back Later
The Chapter 1 dragon boss hides behind a waterfall near the Outside the Forest Shrine. You can't fight it yet — you need the Loong Scales from Chapter 2. Come back after getting them.
Skandha of Form
Pick up the Skandha of Form in the Forest of Wolves (look for rocks to the left of the path toward the Bullguard arena, near a buddha head in a shallow stream). You need all four Skandhas from Chapters 1-4 for a hidden boss in Chapter 6.
Chapter 2: Yellow Wind Ridge — The Boar Quest Changes Everything
Chapter 2 has roughly 17 bosses and is significantly larger than Chapter 1. The path goes Sandgate Village → Fright Cliffs → Crouching Tiger Temple → Kingdom of Sahali (secret).
Fuban — The True Ending Boss Behind a Quest Chain
Fuban is Chapter 2's true ending requirement, and reaching him takes several steps.
First, find the Drunken Boar NPC at Rockrest Flat (left from the shrine into a large clearing past a Spearbone enemy, break through the wooden fence). Exhaust his dialogue. Then visit the Man-in-Stone NPC, complete his quest, and buy the Sobering Stone from his shop. Return to the Boar with the stone.
Next, defeat the Yellow-Robed Squire in the Fright Cliffs. After the fight, follow him through the doors behind his arena. This opens the Kingdom of Sahali — an entire hidden area with its own shrine, bosses, and story.
Inside Sahali, fight through the Tiger Vanguard and eventually reach Fuban. Defeating him rewards you with the Settling Sand Vessel — another true ending prerequisite item.
Loong Scales — The Key to Two Dragons
After defeating the First Prince of Flowing Sands, look at the arena walls. Use the Wandering Wight Spirit skill to break the ornate wall with statues. Inside the crack, you'll find a chest containing the Loong Scales.
With this item, you can now fight Black Loong (Chapter 2, at the sandfall near Rockrest Flat Shrine in the Fright Cliffs) and Red Loong (Chapter 1, return to the waterfall near the Outside the Forest Shrine).
Shigandang — Collect Six Eyeballs
Six Buddha's Eyeballs are scattered across the Fright Cliffs. Collect all six, place them on a designated rock, and Shigandang spawns. Defeating him gives you the Skandha of Feeling — another piece needed for the Chapter 6 hidden boss — plus the Heart of Stone.
Tiger Wraith and Wind-Chasing Tiger
These two optional bosses appear when you use the Old Bell item. They're easy to miss if you don't experiment with key items.
The Rat Princes — Kill Order Matters
When fighting the King of Flowing Sands and Second Rat Prince together, you can end the fight by killing just the Second Prince. However, killing the King first enrages the Second Prince significantly. Your choice — but be aware of the consequences.

The Bottom Line
Chapter 1: ring all three bells for Elder Jinchi, don't skip the Wandering Wight, and talk to the Horse NPC. Chapter 2: complete the Boar quest chain to reach Fuban, break the wall for Loong Scales, and collect six eyeballs for Shigandang. These early chapters set up everything that matters for the endgame — skip them and you'll pay for it 30 hours later.
